amFAR Produces Angels in America for Covid Research
The Company
amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. Since 1985, amfAR has invested more than $415 million in its programs and has awarded grants to more than 3,300 research teams worldwide.
When amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, began to explore routes to raise money for its Fund to Fight Covid-19, OpenReel was also able to step up. amfAR produced a virtual reprise of scenes from the iconic play Angels in America, featuring world-class talent such as Glenn Close, Laura Linney, and Patti LuPone.
OpenReel donated its product, empowering the production to film each actor in their own homes. While the production was free to stream, viewers could donate to amfAR’s COVID-19 fund for access to an exclusive moderated conversation with select cast members. The virtual play has since been heralded as a top theatre production of 2020 by The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.
